Christopher Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens (1949–2011) was a British-born author, journalist, and public intellectual who became a U.S. citizen in 2007. Educated at Balliol College, Oxford, he wrote for outlets including *The Nation*, *Vanity Fair*, and *The Atlantic*, and was known for combative debate and wide-ranging political commentary. Hitchens authored numerous books, including the memoir *Hitch-22* (2010) and the polemic *God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything* (2007), a prominent statement of his atheism. He also wrote on figures such as Thomas Jefferson and Henry Kissinger. Hitchens died in 2011.
