Christopher Marlowe
Christopher Marlowe (1564–1593) was an English playwright, poet, and translator of the Elizabethan era. Born in Canterbury, he studied at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, earning a BA and MA. Marlowe became a leading figure in early English Renaissance drama, known for powerful blank verse and ambitious protagonists. His major plays include *Tamburlaine the Great*, *The Jew of Malta*, and *Doctor Faustus*. He also wrote the narrative poem *Hero and Leander* and translated works by Ovid and Lucan. Marlowe died in Deptford at age 29, killed in a stabbing.
