Clarence B. Kelland

Clarence Budington Kelland (1881–1964) was an American writer and editor best known for popular fiction. Born in Portland, Maine, he became a prolific author of novels and short stories, publishing widely in magazines and book form. Kelland created the character Scattergood Baines, featured in a series of stories that later inspired film adaptations. He also served as an editor, contributing to American periodical publishing during the early 20th century. Over a long career, Kelland wrote in accessible, plot-driven styles that appealed to mass audiences, and his work helped shape mainstream commercial storytelling in the United States.
