Cormac McCarthy

Cormac McCarthy (1933–2023) was an American novelist and playwright. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he grew up in Tennessee and later lived for many years in the Southwest. His early novels include *The Orchard Keeper* (1965) and *Suttree* (1979). McCarthy gained wide recognition with *Blood Meridian* (1985) and the Border Trilogy, beginning with *All the Pretty Horses* (1992), which won the National Book Award. His later works include *No Country for Old Men* (2005) and *The Road* (2006), which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. He also wrote the plays *The Stonemason* and *The Sunset Limited*.
