Cyril Northcote Parkinson

Cyril Northcote Parkinson was born in England in 1909. While attending St. Peter’s School, York, Parkinson won a scholarship to the University of Cambridge, receiving his BA in 1932. Parkinson attended graduate school at King’s College London, and his Ph.D. thesis received the 1935 Julian Corbett Prize in Naval History. Throughout his career, Parkinson held a number of teaching positions and published 60 books that distinguished him as an important scholar of naval history and public administration. His most famous book was Parkinson’s Law (1958), a collection of satirical essays about the inevitability of bureaucratic expansion.
