Daniel J. Evans

Daniel J. Evans (1925–2024) was an American politician and educator from Washington state. A member of the Republican Party, he served three terms as Governor of Washington (1965–1977) and later represented Washington in the U.S. Senate (1983–1989). Evans was also an educator and university leader, serving as president of The Evergreen State College (1977–1983). Born in Seattle, he studied at the University of Washington and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He remained a prominent public figure in Washington for decades, known for pragmatic governance and civic engagement.
