Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828–1882) was an English poet, painter, illustrator, and translator, and a founding member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Born in London to an Italian émigré family, he trained at the Royal Academy Schools and helped launch the Brotherhood in 1848, advocating a return to vivid detail and sincerity in art. Rossetti produced influential paintings and drawings, often featuring medieval and literary themes, and wrote lyric poetry noted for its sensuous imagery. He translated early Italian poets, including Dante Alighieri, and his own collections such as *Poems* (1870) shaped Victorian aestheticism. He lived and worked largely in London.
