David Allan Coe

David Allan Coe (born September 6, 1939) is an American singer-songwriter and musician associated with the outlaw country movement. Emerging in the 1970s, he became known for a raw, independent style that blended traditional country with rock influences and a rebellious persona. Coe wrote and recorded “You Never Even Called Me by My Name,” a song popularized widely in country music, and later released “The Ride,” which became one of his signature recordings. Across a long career, he issued numerous albums and built a devoted following for his storytelling, barroom ballads, and uncompromising approach to songwriting and performance.
