David Eddings

David Eddings (1931–2009) was an American fantasy novelist best known for the epic series *The Belgariad* and its sequel, *The Malloreon*. Born in Spokane, Washington, he studied at Reed College and later earned a master’s degree from the University of Washington. Eddings worked in academia and other jobs before turning to full-time writing. Beginning in the 1980s, he published a string of popular, accessible fantasy novels noted for quest-driven plots, humor, and familiar archetypes. Many later books were written in collaboration with his wife, Leigh Eddings, who was credited as co-author on several volumes. He died in Carson City, Nevada.
