David Kelley

David E. Kelley (born April 4, 1956) is an American television writer and producer known for creating and running influential network and cable dramas and comedies. A former attorney, he began writing for television in the late 1980s and became a key creative force on *L.A. Law*. Kelley went on to create *Picket Fences*, *Chicago Hope*, *The Practice*, and *Ally McBeal*, earning multiple Emmy Awards for his work. In the 2010s he expanded into prestige limited series, developing *Big Little Lies* for HBO and later adapting projects such as *The Undoing*. His shows are noted for sharp dialogue, legal and ethical dilemmas, and character-driven storytelling.
