David Russell

David Russell was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1953. His family moved to the Spanish island of Minorca when he was five, and it was here that Russell became interested in Spanish guitar. Russell attended the Royal Academy of Music, where he received a scholarship from the Ralph Vaughan Williams Trust and won the Julian Bream Guitar Prize twice. Since 1995, Russell has recorded various albums of instrumental guitar music, including Celtic Music for Guitar, Aire Latino, Music by Giuliani, and several others. In 1997, Russell was named a fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, and in 2004, he won a Grammy Award for best instrumental soloist in classical music.
