David S. Muzzey

David Saville Muzzey (1880–1968) was an American historian and textbook author best known for writing widely used school histories in the early to mid-20th century. Born in Massachusetts, he studied at Harvard University and later at Columbia University. Muzzey taught history and became prominent through clear, accessible narratives aimed at secondary students. His textbooks on United States and world history were adopted in many classrooms and helped shape how generations encountered historical events and civic themes. Over his long career he also wrote for general readers, maintaining a focus on political history and the development of modern society.
