Dennis Franz

Dennis Franz (born October 28, 1944) is an American actor best known for playing Detective Andy Sipowicz on the ABC television series *NYPD Blue* (1993–2005). His performance earned him four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe Award. Before that, he appeared on *Hill Street Blues*, portraying Detective Sal Benedetto and later Lieutenant Norman Buntz. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Franz served in the U.S. Army and later studied at Southern Illinois University. He also appeared in films including *Die Hard 2* and *City of Angels*.
