Diane Ravitch

Diane Ravitch (born 1938) is an American historian of education and a prominent writer on education policy and school reform. She served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education and has also held senior roles in federal education policy. Ravitch is the author of influential books and essays that examine public schooling, standards, testing, and the effects of reform initiatives. Over her career she has been associated with debates about accountability, privatization, and the role of government in education. Through her scholarship and public commentary, she has become a widely cited voice in discussions of how to strengthen and protect public education in the United States.
