Dianne Feinstein

Dianne Feinstein (1933–2023) was an American politician who served as a United States Senator from California from 1992 until her death. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as Mayor of San Francisco, becoming the city’s first female mayor after the 1978 assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. Feinstein later won statewide office and became California’s senior senator, known for work on gun violence prevention, intelligence oversight, and environmental issues. Though not primarily a literary author, her public career generated widely quoted remarks on governance, public safety, and civil liberties.
