Dick Cavett

Dick Cavett (Richard Alva Cavett, born November 19, 1936) is an American television talk-show host, writer, and interviewer known for his thoughtful, wide-ranging conversations. Raised in Nebraska, he graduated from Yale University, where he performed with the Yale Dramatic Association and wrote for campus productions. After working as a comedy writer, he joined network television and became a prominent interviewer with *The Dick Cavett Show*, which aired in various versions on ABC, CBS, and PBS from the late 1960s through the 1990s. Cavett has also written books and newspaper columns and has appeared as an actor and commentator in film and television.
