Dinah Maria Mulock
Dinah Maria Mulock (1826–1887), also known as Dinah Maria Mulock Craik, was an English novelist and poet. Born in Stoke-on-Trent, she grew up in Staffordshire and later lived in London. She began publishing early, writing poetry, essays, and fiction, and became a popular Victorian author noted for moral seriousness and domestic realism. Her best-known novel, *John Halifax, Gentleman* (1856), traces the rise of a self-made man and helped secure her wide readership. Mulock married George Lillie Craik in 1865 and continued to publish novels and shorter works. She died in London in 1887.
