Dorothy Parker

Dorothy Parker (1893–1967) was an American poet, short-story writer, critic, and satirist. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, she became a prominent voice in New York literary culture and was a member of the Algonquin Round Table. Parker wrote poetry collections including *Enough Rope* (1926) and *Sunset Gun* (1928), and her short fiction—often marked by wit and emotional sharpness—was widely read in magazines such as *The New Yorker*. She also worked as a drama and book critic and wrote for film, earning Academy Award nominations for screenwriting. Parker’s work remains noted for its incisive humor and social observation.
