E. C. Stedman
Edmund Clarence Stedman (1833–1908) was an American poet, literary critic, and editor. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he attended Yale University but left before graduating. After working as a journalist, he became a stockbroker in New York City while continuing to write. Stedman published several volumes of poetry, including *The Blameless Prince* (1869) and *Alice of Monmouth* (1864). He was also known for influential critical studies such as *Victorian Poets* (1875) and *The Poets of America* (1885). With George Edward Woodberry, he edited the multi-volume *Library of American Literature* (1887–1890).
