Earl Wilson

Earl Wilson (1907–1987) was an American journalist and syndicated gossip columnist best known for his long-running column “It Happened Last Night.” A prominent Broadway and nightlife reporter, he became a familiar voice in mid-20th-century American entertainment journalism, chronicling celebrities, theater openings, and Manhattan social scenes. Wilson’s column reached readers nationwide through newspaper syndication and helped shape the modern gossip-column format with brisk, anecdotal items and insider observations. He also appeared on radio and television, extending his influence beyond print. Remembered for his energetic reporting style, Wilson remained closely associated with New York’s theater world throughout his career.
