Edgar A. Guest (1881–1959) was a British-born American poet and newspaper columnist widely known as the “People’s Poet.” Born in Birmingham, England, he emigrated to the United States as a child and later made his career in Detroit, Michigan. Guest became a prominent voice in American newspapers, writing accessible, optimistic verse about everyday life, family, work, and perseverance. His poems were syndicated nationally and reached a broad readership, helping make him one of the most widely read poets of his era.
