Edgar Z. Friedenberg
Edgar Z. Friedenberg was born in New York in 1921 and grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana. Friedenberg attended Centenary College, Stanford University, and University of Chicago, where he obtained his PhD in education in the late 1940s. Friedenberg then started teaching, first at Hyde Park, followed by Brooklyn College, University of California at Davis, and State University of New York. In the mid-1960s, Friedenberg began publishing his outrage at the Vietnam War, and he moved to Canada to teach education at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia in 1970. In the late 1970s, Friedenberg, by now an important Libertarian figure, wrote Deference to Authority: The Case of Canada. Friedenberg died in 2000.
