Edmund Burke
Edmund Burke was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1729. At Trinity College, Dublin, Burke began studying law, but eventually gave it up to attempt to earn a living as a writer. Burke’s early writings contained arguments against religion and other philosophical subjects. He also created the influential political journal The Annual Register. Burke entered British Parliament in 1765. He gained recognition for his support for the American Colonies and was later opposed to the French Revolution. Burke became a leading configure of the conservative “Old Whigs” faction of the Whig party.
