Edouard Bourdet

Édouard Bourdet (1887–1945) was a French playwright and theatre director. He wrote for the Paris stage and became known for comedies and dramas that engaged contemporary social themes. Among his best-known plays is *La Prisonnière* (1926), a controversial work centered on a lesbian relationship that drew wide attention and debate. He also co-wrote *Fric-Frac* (1931), a popular play later adapted for film. Bourdet served as director of the Comédie-Française, one of France’s leading national theatres, and was an influential figure in interwar French theatrical life. He died in 1945.
