Eduardo Galeano
Eduardo Galeano (1940–2015) was a Uruguayan journalist, essayist, and writer whose work blended history, politics, and literary storytelling. Born in Montevideo, he began his career in journalism and became known for his sharp critiques of power and inequality in Latin America. His landmark book *Las venas abiertas de América Latina* (*Open Veins of Latin America*, 1971) examined the region’s exploitation and became widely influential. After Uruguay’s 1973 coup, Galeano lived in exile in Argentina and later Spain before returning home. He also wrote the *Memory of Fire* trilogy, an innovative narrative history of the Americas.
