Edward Koch

Edward I. Koch (1924–2013) was an American politician, lawyer, and author best known for serving as Mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989. A Democrat, he represented New York in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1969 to 1977 after earlier service on the New York City Council. As mayor, Koch became a nationally recognized figure during a period marked by fiscal recovery efforts, major development, and contentious debates over crime, housing, and city services. After leaving office, he remained active in public life as a commentator and writer, publishing books and opinion pieces and appearing frequently in the media.
