Edward Payson Powell

Edward Payson Powell (1833–1915) was an American Episcopal clergyman and author. He wrote on American history and Christian thought, including *Nullification and Secession in the United States* and *The Living Christ and the Four Gospels*. Powell’s work reflects a minister’s engagement with public questions as well as theological concerns, bringing a moral and religious perspective to debates about the nation’s past and the interpretation of the Gospels. Remembered primarily through his published books, he represents a strand of nineteenth-century American religious writing that combined pastoral vocation with authorship and commentary on civic life.
