Eliza Bisbee Duffey

Eliza Bisbee Duffey (1838–1923) was an American author and lecturer known for popular works on domestic advice and social manners. Writing in the late nineteenth century, she addressed topics such as health, marriage, and women’s education in a direct, practical style aimed at middle-class readers. Duffey is best remembered for *What Women Should Know* and for etiquette manuals including *The Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Etiquette*, which offered guidance on conduct in the home and in public life. Through her books and public talks, she helped shape contemporary discussions of propriety and women’s roles during a period of rapid social change in the United States.
