Elmer Davis

Elmer Davis (1890–1958) was an American journalist, author, and radio commentator. He worked for *The New York Times* and became widely known for his news analysis and commentary on national affairs. During World War II, Davis served as director of the U.S. Office of War Information, overseeing government communications and public information efforts in support of the war. After the war he continued writing and broadcasting, remaining a prominent public voice on politics and international issues. Davis also published books and essays, and he is remembered for clear, accessible explanations of complex events and for shaping wartime information policy in the United States.
