Erich Fromm
Fromm was an only child, born in Frankfurt am Main to Orthodox Jewish parents. He attended University from the age of 18, studying jurisprudence before switching over to sociology and, after earning his Ph.D., to psychoanalysis. Fromm left Germany after the Nazi takeover, reaching the US in 1934. While in the US, he turned to writing, focusing on political psychology. He retired in in 1974 and moved to Switzerland where he spent the remaining years of his life, dying less than a week before his 80th birthday.
