Erich Segal

Erich Segal (1937–2010) was an American author, screenwriter, and classical scholar best known for the bestselling novel *Love Story* (1970). He also wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation, which became a major hit. Segal studied at Harvard University and earned a doctorate in classics, later teaching and lecturing in the field. Alongside his academic work, he built a career in popular storytelling, writing novels and scripts that reached wide audiences. His blend of classical learning and contemporary romance made *Love Story* an enduring cultural touchstone. Segal died in 2010.
