Eve Ensler

V (formerly Eve Ensler) is an American playwright, performer, and activist best known for writing *The Vagina Monologues*. The work grew out of interviews with women and became an internationally staged production. Ensler also founded V-Day, a global activist movement that uses performances and community events to raise awareness and funds to end violence against women and girls. She has written additional books and plays and has appeared as a public speaker on gender-based violence and women’s rights. In 2011, she helped launch the City of Joy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a leadership center for women survivors of violence.
