Evelyn Glennie

Dame Evelyn Glennie (born 1965) is a Scottish percussionist and composer who built an international career as a solo percussionist. Deaf since childhood, she has spoken widely about listening through vibration and has advocated for greater access and understanding for deaf musicians. Glennie has commissioned and premiered numerous works for percussion and expanded the profile of solo percussion on concert stages worldwide. She has performed with leading orchestras and artists across genres, and her work includes recordings, film and television contributions, and educational outreach. In 2007 she was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE).
