Fanny Fern

Fanny Fern was the pen name of Sara Payson Willis, later known as Sara Willis Parton (1811–1872), an American newspaper columnist and author. Born in Portland, Maine, she became one of the best-known newspaper voices of her era, writing sharp, witty columns that addressed domestic life, social expectations, and women’s rights. Under the name Fanny Fern, she gained wide popularity for her accessible style and satirical edge, reaching a broad readership through major newspapers and magazines. She also published books, including collections of her writings and fiction. Her success made her a prominent figure in nineteenth-century American letters.
