Felicia Hemans

Felicia Dorothea Hemans (1793–1835) was a British poet associated with the Romantic era. Born in Liverpool, she was raised in Wales and began publishing poetry at a young age. Hemans became one of the most widely read poets of her time, celebrated for lyrical verse that often explores patriotism, domestic life, history, and the costs of war. Her best-known poems include “Casabianca” (“The boy stood on the burning deck”) and “The Homes of England,” both frequently anthologized. She published numerous volumes, including *Records of Woman* (1828). Hemans died in Dublin, where she had been living in her later years.
