Frederick Langbridge

Frederick Langbridge (1863–1942) was an English poet, hymn-writer, and literary critic. He is associated with verse that often drew on historical and patriotic themes, and he is credited with the book *Ballads of the Brave*. Langbridge also wrote hymn texts, including “God of the Living, in Whose Eyes,” which has been used in Christian worship. In addition to his poetry and hymnody, he worked as a critic, contributing to literary discussion in his period. His writing reflects late Victorian and early twentieth-century tastes for narrative poetry and moral reflection, and his hymns show a concern for faith expressed in clear, singable language.
