Frederick the Great
Frederick II of Prussia (1712–1786), known as Frederick the Great, reigned as King of Prussia from 1740 to 1786. A skilled military commander, he expanded Prussian territory through the Silesian Wars and played a central role in the Seven Years’ War, helping establish Prussia as a major European power. He pursued administrative and legal reforms and promoted religious toleration, aligning his rule with Enlightenment ideals. Frederick was also a prolific writer, composing works largely in French, including political essays, histories, and poetry. He corresponded with leading intellectuals, notably Voltaire, and cultivated music and the arts at his court.
