Fu Xi

Fu Xi (Fuxi) is a legendary culture hero and mythological ruler in ancient Chinese tradition, frequently placed among the earliest sages of Chinese civilization. He is commonly credited with foundational cultural inventions rather than with writing identifiable historical texts. Traditional accounts attribute to him the creation of the Bagua (Eight Trigrams), later central to the *Yijing* (Book of Changes), as well as the establishment of practices such as fishing with nets, hunting, and aspects of animal domestication. Fu Xi is often linked with the goddess Nüwa, sometimes described as his sister and consort. Because his figure belongs to myth and legend, details of his life and dates are not historically verifiable.
