G. B. Shaw

George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950) was an Irish playwright, critic, and polemicist. Born in Dublin, he moved to London in 1876, where he became a prominent music and theatre critic and a leading voice in public debate. Shaw helped found the Fabian Society and wrote widely on politics, religion, and social reform. He achieved major theatrical success with plays such as *Man and Superman* (1903), *Major Barbara* (1905), *Pygmalion* (1913), and *Saint Joan* (1923), noted for their wit and argumentative energy. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925 and won an Academy Award for *Pygmalion* (1938).
