George Bernard Shaw

George Bernard Shaw was born into a working-class neighborhood of Dublin, Ireland. His formal schooling at a young age, but he started writing novels in his early twenties after studying novels on his own in London. His first literary success, however, was as a critic of the arts. Shaw also wrote many plays, essays, political pamphlets, and other writings, and by the end of the 1890s, he was an established playwright. In 1898, Shaw married Charlotte Payne-Townshend and the two settled in Hertfordshire in a house now called Shaw’s Corner, where Shaw died at 94. Shaw is the only person to have been awarded both a Nobel Prize in Fiction (1925) and an Oscar (1938).
