George Burns
George Burns was born in 1896 in New York City. He started working as a young child and was discovered for his singing ability while working at a local candy shop at age seven. In the fourth grade, Burns quit school to go into show business, entertaining audiences with vaudeville, dancing, and singing. In the 1930s, Burns starred in various films and began performing comedy on the radio. After nearly two decades on the radio, Burns and Gracie Allen took their popular comedy show to TV in 1950. Subsequently, Burns starred in other TV shows and films, and wrote a total of ten books. He died in 1996 at age 100.
