George Gobel

George Gobel (1919–1991) was an American entertainer known for his work as a comedian, actor, and singer. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Gobel rose to national prominence in the 1950s as the host of the NBC television variety program *The George Gobel Show* (1954–1960), where his relaxed, folksy persona earned him wide popularity. He also appeared in films, including *Sitting Pretty* (1948) and *The Birds and the Bees* (1956), and performed extensively on radio and television. Gobel died in Santa Monica, California.
