George Gordon Byron
George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron (1788–1824), known as Lord Byron, was an English Romantic poet and a leading figure of the Romantic movement. He achieved rapid fame with *Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage* (1812) and became renowned for his lyrical intensity, satire, and the “Byronic hero.” His major works include *Don Juan*, *Manfred*, and *The Corsair*. Byron’s personal life and self-imposed exile in Europe drew wide public attention. He lived in Switzerland and Italy, associating with writers such as Percy Bysshe Shelley. In 1823 he joined the Greek War of Independence and died at Missolonghi in 1824.
