George Lucas

George Walton Lucas Jr. (born May 14, 1944) is an American filmmaker and entrepreneur. He created the *Star Wars* and *Indiana Jones* franchises and founded Lucasfilm. Lucas co-wrote and directed *Star Wars* (1977), which became a landmark in popular cinema and launched a long-running series of films and related media. He also co-created *Indiana Jones* with Steven Spielberg, beginning with *Raiders of the Lost Ark* (1981). As a producer and studio founder, Lucas helped advance modern visual effects and sound through companies associated with Lucasfilm, including Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound. He later sold Lucasfilm to The Walt Disney Company.
