George Noel Gordon (Lord Byron)

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron (1788–1824), known as Lord Byron, was an English Romantic poet and satirist. Born in London, he inherited his title in 1798 and was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. The first cantos of *Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage* (1812) brought him sudden fame, followed by works such as *The Giaour*, *Manfred*, and *Don Juan*. His outspoken politics and scandalous private life led him to leave Britain in 1816, living in Switzerland and Italy. In 1823 he went to Greece to support its war of independence, dying at Missolonghi in 1824.
