George Osborne

Gideon George Oliver Osborne (born 23 May 1971) is a British politician and journalist. A member of the Conservative Party, he served as Member of Parliament for Tatton from 2001 to 2017. Osborne was Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2010 to 2016 in David Cameron’s coalition and Conservative governments, overseeing fiscal policy during a period of austerity and post-financial-crisis recovery. He previously worked as a political adviser and held senior roles in opposition, including Shadow Chancellor. After leaving government, he became editor of the London newspaper the *Evening Standard* (2017–2020) and later co-hosted the podcast *Political Currency*.
