George Patton
George S. Patton Jr. (1885–1945) was a U.S. Army general best known for commanding American forces in World War II. A 1909 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he served in World War I and later became a leading advocate of armored warfare. During WWII he led the Western Task Force in Operation Torch, commanded the U.S. Seventh Army in the Sicily campaign, and later the U.S. Third Army in France and Germany after the Normandy landings. Patton was also a prolific writer of military memoranda, speeches, and personal letters, and his wartime diaries and correspondence have been widely published.
