George R. R. Martin

George R. R. Martin (born September 20, 1948) is an American novelist and short-story writer. He is best known for the epic fantasy series *A Song of Ice and Fire*, which began with *A Game of Thrones* (1996) and was adapted for television by HBO as *Game of Thrones* (2011–2019). Martin started publishing science fiction and fantasy stories in the early 1970s and later worked in television, including as a writer and producer on *Beauty and the Beast*. His other books include *Fevre Dream* and *The Armageddon Rag*, and he has edited the long-running *Wild Cards* shared-world anthology series.
