George S. Patton

George S. Patton Jr. (1885–1945) was a United States Army general best known for his leadership in World War II. A 1909 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he served in the Mexican Expedition and helped pioneer U.S. armored warfare. Patton commanded forces in North Africa and Sicily and later led the U.S. Third Army in the 1944–45 campaign across France and into Germany, including the rapid relief of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. He was also a prolific writer, leaving diaries, letters, and military reflections that have been widely quoted. Patton died in Germany after a car accident.
