George Saunders (born 1958) is an American short-story writer, novelist, and essayist. He is known for fiction that blends satire, dark humor, and compassion, often examining work, consumer culture, and moral choice. Saunders first gained wide attention with the story collection *CivilWarLand in Bad Decline* (1996), followed by books including *Pastoralia* (2000), *In Persuasion Nation* (2006), and *Tenth of December* (2013).
